Brooke Winderl:
Brooke Winderl is a graduate of Danville High School. Ms. Winderl received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky, and a Masters of Arts degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Ms Winderl has been a kindergarten teacher at Burgin Independent since 2002. She was married in June of 2007. Ms. Winderl is a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators. Her hobbies are painting pottery and wood as well as collecting antiques.
Theresa Brooks:
Theresa Brooks is a graduate of University of Florida. She has worked as a research assistant at the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos Islands, and as a naturalist guide in the Galapagos National Park. Mrs. Brookes also worked as a biology professor at the University of Cuenca (Ecuador) and as a high school English teacher in a small town in the Andes Mountains. Mrs. Brooks moved into the Mercer County area to be closer to her family. Her father was a professor at Centre College. She began teaching at Burgin in 2003. She teaches all levels of Spanish (spanish 1 through AP Spanish) and also teaches Biology. She sponsors Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish Honor Society), First Priority Club and the Sophomore Class at Burgin High School. She and her husband Paul coach the Burgin Soccer teams. They have a farm in Harrodsburg where they raise New Zealand Kiko goats and Great Pyrenees dogs.
Robert Rogers:
Mr. Rogers graduated of Danville High School. He is a military veteran of Vietnam War. Mr. Rogers served as Crew Chief for F-105 Thunder and was a chief in the Air Force. Mr. Rogers owned and operated a service station. He has worked as a truck driver, newspaper delivery person, and wrecker service driver. He began his career as a bus driver at Burgin Independent in 2002. He has three grandchildren who also attend Burgin Schools. |

Michael Phelps:
Michael Phelps teaches 6th and 7th grade Technology Education at King Middle School. The Technology Education Program focuses on exposing students to a wide variety of different careers and integrates the Kentucky Vocational Core Content. This class provides hand-on computer instruction for students. Through the various programs, students can build bridges, construct vehicles, fly airplanes, work on media production and work with robotics. Mr Phelps has a bachelors of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Masters of Education also from Eastern Kentucky University.
Mr. Phelps has over 32 years in education. He spent two years teaching in Jefferson county before becoming a teacher in the Mercer County School District. Mr. Phelps has served King Middle School as a SBDM council Member, as Practical Living and Vocation Skills Department Chairperson, and as a long-term member of the technology committee. Outside of school, Mr. Phelps spends much time involved with family and church activities. He has a real interest in general aviation and has his pilot's license.
Mr. Phelps is married to Rinnie Jo Phelps, Media Specialist at King Middle School. They have three children, Rebecca, Michael Jo, and Robbie who is a teacher at the 9th Grade Academy and Mercer High School. Mr. Phelps also has three grandchildren, Luke, Abram, and Kate.
Joy Campbell:
Joy Campbell, Financial Officer of Mercer County Schools, is a graduate of Campbellsville University with a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration. She attended master level classes in school finance at Eastern Kentucky University and is a Certified School Finance Manager from the University of Kentucky's Gatton School of Business. Ms. Campbell has nineteen years experience in school finance with seven and one half years in the Mercer county School District.
As Finance Officer, some of Ms. Campbell's many jobs include development, analysis, and implementation of the district budget; supervision of accounts payable, payroll and school activity accounting; and district-wide staffing. Ms. Campbell also supervises buildings and grounds for the district and is the district representative and contact person for all construction projects.
Ms. Campbell is a member of the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials and has served on the Board of Directors of that organization for four years. She is a member of the Central Kentucky Association of School Administrators and has served as treasurer for seven years. She is also a member of the Perryville Lions Club and has been treasurer for nine years. Ms. Campbell is involved in many church activities including playing the piano for church services and activities.
Ms. Campbell is married to Richard Campbell, Boyle County Attorney. They have three children, Chad, who leaves for the Marines in April, Justin and Sara who are both married, and one grandchild, Joey.
Terry Yates:
Terry Yates, Principal of Mercer County Senior High School, is the school's instructional leader. He has a Bachelors of Business Administration and a Business Education Teaching Endorsement from Morehead State University. He has a Masters in Business Education from Eastern Kentucky University and also a Rank 1 in School Administration and Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University.
Mr. Yates had thenty-four years experience in education as a teacher, couch, and assistant principal before becoming principal of Mercer County Senior High in 1999. As building principal, Mr. Yates oversees curriculum, instruction, and assessment processes for students in grades 10 - 12. He conducts the day-to-day management of the school and its many programs and is very involved in the construction of Mercer County's new Senior High School.
Mr. Yates was a member of the Commissioner of Education's Principals Advisory Panel in 2001-2003. He served as a 2005 Kentucky Representative to the Southern Regional Education Board National Assessment Panel. Mr. Yates has been a presenter at the Teaching and Learning Conference, the State Universal Design for Learning Conference, and the Kentucky Diversity Conference. Mr. Yates also wrote a Universal Design for Learning Grant that provided over $100,000 of technology and training to the high school and district.
Mr. Yates is married to Debra Yates who works in the Finance Department at the Mercer County Board of Education. They have two children, Sarah is a junior in the Registered Nursing Program at Kentucky Business College, and Casey is a junior at Mercer County Senior High. |
